Welcome to the Friends of Byumba Website

Here on the website you can keep up-to-date with the projects overseen by Bishop Onesphore Rwaje and Rev Meg Guillebaud of Byumba Diocese in the north of Rwanda. Browse the site to explore current projects, issues of concern and planned developments - or delve more deeply into the history, lives and work of the Anglican Diocese of Byumba.

The Diocese of Byumba has been led by Bishop Onesphore Rwaje (pictured right) since its creation in 1991, during a time of war in the region, a position he held throughout the 1994 genocide and its aftermath.

To read more about the Bishop, his staff and the work of the Diocese, see the Diocese section in the menu above. Details of the diocesan structure and an overview of the departments, staff and buildings is also included.

Bishop Rwaje was elected as Archbishop of Rwanda on 17th September 2010. This will mean he will be moving to Kigali in December 2010 and will be installed as Archbishop on January 23rd.
On November 5th 2010 Revd Emmanuel Ngendehayo, who has served as Diocesan Secretary for a number of years, was elected by the House of Bishops as the next Bishop of Byumba. He will be consecrated as bishop on January 5th 2011.

RW-2     Rev Meg Guillebaud was born in Burundi and raised in Rwanda. Following an education in UK she moved back to Rwanda in 1994 - to rejoin her aging parents, and to contribute to the rebuilding efforts post-genocide. Ordained priest the same year in the UK, Meg now trains church leaders in Byumba, and is engaged at a grassroots level in helping those in need: primarily in the areas of education, disability relief and widows housing. She is a mission partner of CMS, and the author of two books: 'Rwanda- The Land God Forgot?' and 'After the Locusts'.

Meg is currently in Byumba assisting with teaching in the Bible College and undertaking preaching, teaching and visiting around the parishes
